White Sox 1B Konerko leaves game

Published November 20, 2014

Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko left Friday's matchup with the Chicago Cubs after being hit near his left eye on a pitch from Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija.

Konerko, who homered in the first inning, was hit in the face by a 2-2 splitter in the third. He left the game with a towel over his left eye as the trainer tended to him.

He was replaced on the base paths by Dayan Viciedo, who took over in left field as Adam Dunn shifted to first to replace the injured Konerko.
