Wawrinka ousted in Cincy

Mason, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Frenchman Julien Benneteau bounced third seed Stan Wawrinka in Friday's quarterfinal action at the $3 million Western & Southern Open, a Masters 1000 event.

Benneteau came from behind to upend the Swiss Australian Open champion Wawrinka 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 in 80 minutes on the hardcourts at Lindner Family Tennis Center. Wawrinka captured the first set in a mere 20 minute before unraveling with a series of unforced errors, including 18 alone in the third set.

The 32-year-old Benneteau has beaten Wawrinka in their last three meetings and will now appear in his first-ever Masters semifinal.

Wawrinka claimed his first career Masters title in Monte Carlo earlier this year.

Meanwhile, fifth-seeded rising Canadian Milos Raonic mauled 15th-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini 6-1, 6-0 in 57 minutes. The hot Raonic titled in Washington, D.C., two weeks ago. And sixth-seeded David Ferrer set-up a date with Benneteau by besting his 16th-seeded fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Robredo stunned world No. 1 Novak Djokovic on Thursday.

The winner of this U.S. Open Series tournament will earn $638,850.
