Villarreal tops Sporting Gijon to end winless skid

Villarreal claimed three big points on 0 victory over Sporting Gijon which snaps a game winless streak for the club.

Villarreal had dropped four of its last six games and entered the match in 19th place. However, a goal from Marco Ruben in the 57th minute broke a scoreless tie before Borja Valero finished off a pass from Angel Lopez one minute later to double the advantage.

Sporting managed to put just one shot on goal over the course of 90 minutes and gave away a third goal in stoppage time when Bruno found the upper-right corner of the net with a shot from the top of the penalty area.

The loss is the fifth in seven games for Sporting Gijon and drops the club to 19th place.
