Veteran OF Pierre officially retires

(SportsNetwork.com) - Outfielder Juan Pierre, a veteran of 14 big-league seasons, confirmed his retirement on Twitter on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old Pierre sat out 2014 after playing his final season with the Miami Marlins in 2013.

Pierre wraps up his career as a .295 hitter with 2,217 hits and a .343 on-base percentage. He led the National League in hits in 2004 and 2006.

In 1,994 career games with the Rockies, Cubs, Dodgers, White Sox, Phillies and two stints with the Marlins, Pierre stole 614 bases, good for 18th all-time. He led the majors in steals in 2003 and 2010, a year in which he stole a career-high 68 bags.

Pierre also led the majors in being caught stealing in four seasons.

In 2003, Pierre batted leadoff for the Marlins and won his only World Series. He earned over $57 million in his major league career.
