Verdict next week on British Olympic doping rule

Published November 20, 2014

The Court of Arbitration for Sport will announce next week if Britain can keep enforcing lifetime Olympic bans for doping cheats.

The case pits the British Olympic Association against the World Anti-Doping Agency. The top court in international sports says an exact date for the verdict will be announced later. A hearing was held March 12 in London, and the ruling will be made by a court panel of three lawyers.

WADA argues that Britain is violating anti-doping rules by seeking to enforce lifetime Olympic bans for athletes who have served a doping suspension. British Olympic officials maintain the doping bylaw is an eligibility issue upholding the integrity of the games.

The same court panel overturned a similar IOC rule last year.
