Ventura supports Farrell, gets skin cancer screening

Published August 15, 2015

CHICAGO (AP) White Sox manager Robin Ventura expressed support for Red Sox skipper John Farrell and, coincidentally, arrived Saturday wearing several small bandages on his neck and nose after being screened for skin cancer earlier in the week.

The team provides precautionary tests twice a year.

Ventura had three small pieces of skin scraped off his face and neck. He joked before Saturday's game against the crosstown Cubs that he ''got zapped pretty good.''

The regular skin check came a day after Farrell, a friend of Ventura's, announced he has a treatable form of lymphoma that was discovered during a hernia treatment.

Ventura called that news ''shocking'' and added it ''does affect you a little bit. ... You know, real-life stuff.''
