US wins third straight FIBA U17 World title, beating Australia 99-92

Malik Newman led the United States to its third straight FIBA Under-17 World Championship title, scoring 21 points in a 99-92 victory over Australia on Saturday.

Newman, the tournament MVP from Jackson, Mississippi, also had 11 rebounds. Jayson Tatum of St. Louis added 15 points for the Americans.

The United States is 23-0 in the history of the tournament that also was played in 2010 and 2012. The Americans also beat Australia in the 2012 title game.

Dejan Vasiljevic led Australia with 29 points.
