VICTOR: Martin Kaymer closed with a 1-under 69 to win his second major championship.
SPOILS: Kaymer finished at 9-under 271 and earned $1.62 million.
SHARING SECOND: Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton each shot 72 to finish eight shots behind.
SHOT OF THE DAY: Kaymer hit driver that landed on the front of the green between two bunkers on the 313-yard third hole.
ACES UP: Zach Johnson made a hole-in-one on the 172-yard ninth hole with a 7-iron. It was the third straight U.S. Open that someone made an ace.
ELITE COMPANY: Since the world ranking began in 1986, the only players to win two majors and be No. 1 in the world before turning 30 are Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Seve Ballesteros.
KEY STATISTIC: Kaymer led by at least four shots over the final 48 holes of the U.S. Open.
NOTEWORTHY: Europeans went 40 years without winning the U.S. Open dating to Tony Jacklin in 1970. They now have won four of the last five.
