UConn guard Rodney Purvis suspended for Huskies opener for violating summer-league rule

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

UConn guard Rodney Purvis has been suspended for the Huskies' season opener on Friday against Bryant University because of a violation of an NCAA rule governing participation in summer leagues.

The school says the sophomore, who sat out last season after transferring from North Carolina State, played in more than one league over the summer, which is not allowed.

In a statement, the university said it worked with the NCAA in determining that Purvis played a single game in a second summer league, which necessitated a one-game penalty.

Purvis, who was expected to start for the Huskies, will be available when the team travels next week to Puerto Rico to participate in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament.
