Behind a score of 181.863, the U.S. women's gymnastics team grabbed the overall lead through three subdivisions of Sunday's qualifications at the North Greenwich Arena.
That has the Americans 11.207 points ahead of Great Britain, which scored 170.656 as part of the third subdivision. Canada is currently fourth at 167.696, less than a point behind Italy.
Expected medal contenders China, Russia and Romania are set to compete later in the evening.
Thanks to a team-leading 15.325 score on the floor exercise, the last event for Team USA on the day, Aly Raisman finished up her day atop the all-around leaderboard with a score 60.391. That's .126 ahead of teammate Gabby Douglas, who also appears headed to the final of the event on Tuesday.
That means expected medal contender Jordyn Wieber, with an all-around mark of 60.032, will not qualify for the event.
