Shannon Taylor scored in the 28th minute, and that was enough for the United States women's field hockey team to edge Argentina, 1-0, on Tuesday in Group B action in the Olympic tournament

The Americans had lost to Germany in their opener on Sunday, but rebounded to beat a team that has medaled at the last three games.

The contest was the Americans' first win over Argentina -- which has won bronze in the last two games, and silver in 2000 -- in Olympic play. The U.S., however, did beat the Argentines in the title match at the 2011 Pan American Games.

The Netherlands, the gold medalist four years ago in Beijing, edged Japan by a 3-2 margin in Group A Tuesday. Also in Group A, Belgium drew China and Great Britain got past South Korea.

In Group B, New Zealand topped South Africa and Australia beat Germany.
