The Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday that they signed free-agent catcher Jason Castro to a three-year contract worth $24.5 million.

Castro, a first-round pick of Houston in 2008, has spent his entire six-year major-league career with the Astros, batting .232 with 114 doubles, 62 home runs, 212 RBI and 215 walks in 617 games.

Last season, Castro hit .210 with 11 home runs. The left-handed hitting catcher has played in at least 104 games in each of the past four seasons.

Castro will earn $8.5 million in 2017, $8 million in 2018 and $8 million in 2019.

Kurt Suzuki, who caught for the Twins the past three seasons, is a free agent.

Castro's addition means Minnesota's 40-man roster is now full.
