Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Twins activated pitcher Ricky Nolasco from the 15-day disabled list so he could start Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Nolasco, who was put on the DL July 8 with a right elbow strain, made a pair of starts in a rehab assignment at Single-A Cedar Rapids.

Nolasco, who signed a four-year, $49 million contract with the Twins in the offseason, has gone 5-7 with a 5.90 ERA over 18 starts during a disappointing debut campaign with his new team.

Throughout nine seasons with Miami, Los Angeles and Minnesota, the 31-year-old has compiled a 94-82 mark with a 4.49 ERA over 247 games.

In a corresponding move, the Twins optioned right-hander Yohan Pino to Triple- A Rochester. He started 10 games for the Twins, going 1-5 with a 5.37 ERA.
