(SportsNetwork.com) - Sandy Grossman, a legendary television sports director at CBS and FOX, died Wednesday. He was 78 years old.

Grossman directed 10 Super Bowl telecasts and won an Emmy Award for his 1980 broadcast with CBS. His last Super Bowl game came with FOX when the New England Patriots upset the St. Louis Rams after the 2001 season.

"Sandy was part of the original heart and soul of FOX Sports," said FOX Sports president Eric Shanks in a statement. "He was a brilliant director and a thoughtful colleague. He mentored many of us here and throughout the sports TV industry, and we learned more from him than he could imagine."

Grossman also directed the NBA Finals 18 times and the Stanley Cup Finals on five occasions.
