Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Three-time WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoopes is returning to the league, signing a deal with the Tulsa Shock.

Tulsa coach and general manager Nolan Richardson confirmed the signing Monday, a day after The Associated Press reported a deal was imminent.

Swoopes turned 40 last week and last played in the WNBA in 2008 for the Seattle Storm. She's spent the last few years playing overseas and now will join a Tulsa team that finished last season 6-28.

The former Texas Tech star won four WNBA titles while playing with the now-defunct Houston Comets. She won her last MVP award in 2005.

Swoopes averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game in her career and was part of the league's inaugural season in 1997.
