Troicki wins Bucharest opener

Eighth seed Viktor Troicki was a first- round victor Monday at the $535,000 Nastase Tiriac Trophy tennis event.

The Serbian Troicki got past Aussie Marinko Matosevic 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 on the red clay at BNR Arenas.

Also on Day 1, German Daniel Brands drilled Japan's Tatsuma Ito 6-3, 6-4 and capable Belgian David Goffin whipped Romanian wild card Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-1.

This week's top seeds are Serbian Janko Tipsarevic and Frenchman Gilles Simon, who titled here a year ago by beating Italian Fabio Fognini in the final. Simon also captured this tournament back-to-back in 2007 and 2008.
