Traore out as Senegal coach

Published November 20, 2014

Senegal's football federation confirmed on Wednesday that coach Amara Traore has been fired following a disappointing showing by the team at the African Cup of Nations.

Senegal entered the competition as one of the favorites with a roster that boasted players like Demba Ba, Papiss Demba Cisse and captain Mamadou Niang.

However, the team lost all three of its matches in the group stage to Zambia, Equatorial Guinea and Libya, leaving Senegal on the bottom of Group A and with its worst ever finish.

No long-term replacement was announced, with Karim Diouf and Aliou Cisse named as caretaker managers for the team's upcoming friendly with South Africa on Feb. 29.
