Misha Cirkunov will not hit the free agent market after all.
The top rated light heavyweight prospect has agreed to a new deal to remain in the UFC after it appeared talks had stalled in recent weeks.
UFC president Dana White announced the news on Wednesday via TSN in Canada.
"We had come to terms on a deal, I had thought, and he sort of went MIA on me," White said about Cirkunov. "I honestly don't know what happened. He came back around, we got the deal done and I'm happy about it."
The announcement of a new contract for Cirkunov comes just weeks after White proclaimed that arguably the best prospect at 205 pounds in several years had turned down a recent offer from the UFC and he would no longer fight for the promotion.
It looks like cooler heads eventually prevailed with Cirkunov inking his new deal this week to remain with the UFC.
Thus far in his UFC career, Cirkunov has racked up four consecutive victories while while finishing all four opponents including a submission victory over Nikita Krylov in his last fight this past December at UFC 206.
