DETROIT (AP) Justin Verlander has not allowed a hit for the Detroit Tigers through seven innings against the Los Angeles Angels.

Verlander was perfect Wednesday night until issuing a one-out walk to Kaleb Cowart in the third. The right-hander then induced a double play from Ryan Jackson and has faced the minimum.

Verlander has struck out five consecutive batters, including Mike Trout looking at a breaking ball for the second out in the seventh. Albert Pujols then went down swinging at a fastball.

Verlander hasn't won since July 29, but entered with a 2.00 ERA over his past four starts. He's thrown 85 pitches and struck out eight.

Verlander has already thrown two no-hitters in his career, the last on May 7, 2011, against Toronto.

The Tigers lead 5-0.
