The top QB in the NFL Draft beat Peyton Manning on the Wonderlic

After a strong performance at the 2016 NFL Combine, Carson Wentz looks like the top quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft. Wentz could add to the hype with some bragging rights gained from his Wonderlic score results -- the quarterback scored a 29 on the Wonderlic, according to a report from Bob McGinn of the Journal Sentinel.

That result is better than Peyton Manning's 28 on the Wonderlic, and Wentz also bested Manning's Super Bowl opponent, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who recorded a 21 on the test.

It is hard to tell whether the Wonderlic actually reflects how well a player might do in the NFL. The best example of that is Johnny Manziel, who scored a 32 on the Wonderlic but has made a series of poor off-field choices which put his NFL career in jeopardy. But there are some elite quarterbacks who scored high on the Wonderlic. Some of the best include Eli Manning (39), Aaron Rodgers (35), and Tom Brady (33).

There are plenty of questions about Wentz's NFL future. The North Dakota State quarterback did not gain much experience against elite college football teams, but at 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, Wentz has size and strength on his side. Scoring better than Peyton Manning on the Wonderlic can't hurt his cause.
