Tennessee's open practice features announced attendance of 40,000 at Neyland Stadium

Tennessee coach Butch Jones says the Volunteers' open practice Saturday should allow his team's 32 newcomers to enter the season with at least some idea of what it's like to perform in front of a big crowd at Neyland Stadium.

The Volunteers tuned up for their Aug. 31 season opener against Utah State with a workout that drew an announced attendance of 40,000 to Neyland Stadium.

Fourteen of Tennessee's newcomers were here for spring practice and got to play in the Orange & White Game, which had an announced attendance of 68,548. But this was an entirely new experience for the other 18 members of that heralded signing class. Jones said that "for them to come in here and have this type of environment was extremely beneficial for us moving forward."
