Tennessee State QB Ackerman-Carter out for season

Published January 27, 2017

FoxSports

(STATS) - Tennessee State quarterback O'Shay Ackerman-Carter will miss the remainder of the season after he tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee Saturday.

The redshirt sophomore was trying to avoid the Bethune-Cookman pass rush by running out of bounds when his knee gave out in the second quarter.

Tennessee State announced Ackerman-Carter will seek a medical hardship through the NCAA.

He was 35 of 57 for 598 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions this season. Ackerman-Carter battled knee and shoulder injuries last season before he made the All-Ohio Valley Conference newcomer team.

The Tigers, off to a 3-0 start following the 31-24 win over Bethune, have an experienced alternative in senior Ronald Butler. He has started 13 times and played in 28 games during his career, making the All-OVC second team as a freshman in 2013.
