MIAMI (AP) Right-handed reliever Junichi Tazawa has finalized his $12 million, two-year contract with the Miami Marlins after passing a physical.
Miami also designated right-hander Nefi Ogando for assignment Friday to clear a roster spot.
Tazawa gets $5 million next season and $7 million in 2018.
Miami reached the agreement with Tazawa after falling short in its pursuit of high-priced closers Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen, and losing free agent left-hander Mike Dunn, who agreed to a $19 million, three-year contract with Colorado.
Tazawa has been with the Boston Red Sox since his rookie year in 2009.
