Hot Serb Janko Tipsarevic came from behind Friday in order to book a spot in Saturday's semifinals at the St. Petersburg Open tennis event.

The second-seeded Tipsarevic, seeking a second straight title in Russia, dropped the first set against Italian Potito Starace in Friday's quarterfinal action before charging back for a 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 6-1 decision on the indoor hardcourts at SCC Peterburgsky.

The world No. 13 Serbian Tipsarevic, who will now appear in his eighth ATP semifinal of the year, was the big winner at the Kremlin Cup last week in Moscow, giving him his second title in a month.

Tipsarevic's semifinal opponent on Saturday will be seventh-seeded Russian- born American Alex Bogomolov Jr.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Croat Marin Cilic, who also had to come from behind to beat an Italian counterpart on Day 5, overcame Andreas Seppi 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. Cilic cracked 13 aces en route to a 2-hour, 28-minute victory. Both players could manage only one break apiece in their tight round-of-eight affair.

The aforementioned Bogomolov Jr. drilled Serbian qualifier Dusan Lajovic for the second time in two weeks, 6-2, 6-1, on Friday. The rising world No. 36 American Bogomolov Jr. is a native of Moscow who wants to play Davis Cup for Russia next year.

The winner of this $663,750 event will earn $114,750.
