Sunderland, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Sunderland goalkeeper Kieren Westwood has been ruled out for the remainder of the season because of a shoulder injury.
Westwood has not featured for the Black Cats since being substituted in a November match with Hull City when he sustained a concussion.
Since that time, Westwood has been overtaken by Vito Mannone as the first- choice goalkeeper, with Westwood suffering a shoulder injury that will require surgery.
Because of an illness Westwood has been unable to have the procedure, and according manager Gus Poyet, he will be out until May.
Prior to the injury, Westwood started 10 games in league play for Sunderland.
