Marcus Rouse scored 17 points and Stony Brook held on to defeat Maryland-Baltimore County 64-56 on Sunday in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

The Seawolves (6-6) led 34-21 at halftime and maintained a double-digit advantage for the first 3 minutes of the second half. Though the Retrievers (1-13) rallied to within one point on two occasions — on Adrian Satchell's layup with 11:40 left and Jamar Wertz' 3-pointer with 3:53 to go — they were unable to take the lead or pull even.

In fact, UMBC led only once — on Travis King's 3-pointer only 64 seconds into the game.

Danny Carter, Stony Brook's only other player to score in double figures, came up with 3-pointers both times UMBC pulled to within one. He finished with 10 points.

Chris De La Rosa led UMBC with 16 points. King added 13 points and Wertz had 10.
