The Pittsburgh Steelers have fired special teams coordinator Al Everest and named Amos Jones to the post.

"We are continually evaluating our coaching staff and support staff, and we have decided to go in a different direction with respect to the coaching of our special teams," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. "I want to thank Al for his contributions and efforts, and I wish him well in the future."

The Tribune Review reported on Thursday that Everest was given the pink slip following an afternoon practice session.

Everest was hired by the Steelers in January of 2010, and had previously worked for the 49ers (2007-09), Saints (2000-05) and Cardinals (1996-99).
