PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - The Pittsburgh Steelers and linebacker Lawrence Timmons agreed on a new six-year contract, the National Football League team said on Tuesday.

Terms of the deal were not announced but according to local media Timmons will earn $50 million.

Taken with the 15th overall pick by the Steelers in the 2007 draft, Timmons has started 30 games in four seasons recording 196 tackles, 15 sacks and two interceptions.

Timmons' deal cements a Steelers linebacking corps that includes three players who have made trips to the Pro Bowl, James Harrison, James Farrior and LaMarr Woodley.
