Start of United States-France women's soccer friendly delayed by thunderstorm

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

The start of the France-United States women's soccer game has been delayed because of a thunderstorm.

The storm about 30 minutes before the scheduled 7:30 start Saturday night prompted officials at Raymond James Stadium to clear the stands and have fans move into covered areas.

Fans were allowed back into the seating area and the teams started pregame drills about 7:20. Officials expected the delay to last around 45 minutes.

U.S. forward Abby Wambach, who has 167 career goals, was not listed in the starting lineup. Wambach hurt her left knee during a NWSL game this month and is listed as day-to-day.
