Bridgeview, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Magee converted a pair of first-half penalty kicks on Sunday and the Chicago Fire held on for a nervy 2-1 victory over 10-man Sporting Kansas City at Toyota Park.

It took just seven minutes for the hosts to open the scoring as Quincy Amarikwa broke in on goal and was clipped by a diving Eric Kronberg, resulting in a penalty kick. Magee then stepped up and buried it into the bottom left corner for the early advantage.

Just eight minutes later the home side made it 2-0. Benji Joya was shoved to the ground in the box and referee Jose Carlos Rivero pointed to the spot for a second time and Magee completed his brace with ease.

Trailing by two goals early, Sporting's task became even more difficult in the 64th minute when Eric Palmer-Brown was shown a second yellow card and sent off in his MLS debut, reducing the visitors to 10 men.

Despite being down a man, Sporting pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when Benny Feilhaber whipped a free kick toward the far post where Dominic Dwyer nodded it home for his eighth goal of the season.

The visitors had the better of the play following the goal and went in search of the equalizer as the fourth official's board showed seven minutes of stoppage time, but Chicago's back line held firm to claim its second win of the season.
