Spain leads rain-interrupted Fed Cup tie

Seville, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Carla Suarez Navarro waited out a lengthy rain delay before securing the first point for Spain in a rain-hit best-of- five quarterfinal Fed Cup tie against the Czech Republic.

Suarez Navarro was leading Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 4-1 in the opening set of Saturday's first rubber when rain forced play to be suspended for several hours.

Once the inclement weather passed, Suarez Navarro finished off a 6-1, 6-4 win on the red clay at Seville's Centro de Tenis Blas Infante.

Because of the delay, however, the second rubber between Spaniard Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor and Czech Klara Zakopalova was pushed back to Sunday.

The Spaniards own five Fed Cup titles, while the Czechs were back-to-back Fed Cup titlists in 2011 and 2012.

Spain is 2-1 all-time versus the Czechs, who won the most recent clash in 2009.
