Sox line up Peavy for Game 3, Buchholz hopeful for Game 4

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed that Jake Peavy will start Game 3 when the World Series shifts to St. Louis on Saturday, with Clay Buchholz expected to take the mound for Game 4.

Buchholz has been recently dealing with arm fatigue and has not pitched well this postseason, having permitted 10 runs and 19 hits in 16 2/3 innings over three starts. Farrell told reporters during a press conference prior to Thursday's Game 2, however, that the team still plans on the right-hander opening Sunday's matchup at Busch Stadium.

"Well, everything that he's going through right now is indicating that he will start on Sunday," said Farrell. "There's been nothing that has happened since we spoke yesterday here or with Clay that would indicate otherwise. So we fully expect him to go."

When healthy, Buchholz had been Boston's best pitcher during the regular season, compiling a 12-1 record with a stellar 1.74 earned run average over 16 starts despite missing a good portion of the year with a strained neck.

Peavy, acquired by the Red Sox from the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal at the non-waiver trade deadline in late July, also struggled in his most recent outing. The veteran righty was tagged for seven runs in just three innings in Boston's 7-3 loss to Detroit in Game 4 of the ALDS.
