Sousa wins Casablanca opener

Casablanca, Morocco (SportsNetwork.com) - Fifth seed Joao Sousa was a first- round winner Monday at the $585,000 Moroccan Open tennis event.

The Portuguese Sousa leveled Dutchman Igor Sijsling 6-2, 6-4 on the red clay at Complexe Al Amal.

Also on Day 1, Argentine Carlos Berlocq rolled past Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4, 6-1.

This week's top seeds are South African Kevin Anderson and Frenchman Gael Monfils. Anderson was last year's runner-up here to Spaniard Tommy Robredo.

The 2014 Casablanca winner will claim $105,000.
