American Rebecca Soni was the first swimmer to defend their Olympic title in London, breaking her own world record in the women's 200-meter breaststroke Thursday night

Soni broke the world record she set in the semifinals Wednesday night by just .41 seconds, touching the wall in 2 minutes, 19.59 seconds.

"It means the world to me that I can be the first one under 2:20," said Soni, who won silver in the 200 breast this week.

Japan's Satomi Suzuki was second and Russia's Iuliia Efimova won bronze. American Micah Lawrence finished sixth.
