Play at the Solheim Cup has begun with alternate-shot foursome matches on the course early Friday at the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club in Germany.

Europe is going for three titles in a row in the competition, while the Unites States is hoping to win its first since 2009 and make up for its last defeat at home in 2013.

The morning matches include Americans Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer taking on Sweden's Anna Nordqvist and Norway's Suzann Pettersen, Michelle Wie and Brittany Lincicome against the English duo Charley Hull and Melissa Reid, and Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson against Karine Icher of France and Azahara Munoz of Spain.

When the morning matches are complete, captains Carin Koch and Juli Inkster will each select teams for the afternoon best-ball fourball matches.
