OTTAWA (Reuters) - Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza will miss six to eight weeks with a torn knee ligament, ending his chances of earning a spot on Canada's 2010 Olympic side, the NHL team said on Wednesday.

Spezza, who attended Team Canada's orientation camp in August, was injured during the third period of a 3-2 loss in Toronto on Monday, damaging the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

"They're kind of giving me that as a time line now but we'll see how it goes," said Spezza on the Senators' website (http://senators.nhl.com). "You always try to get back a little sooner than originally thought but right now it looks like it'll probably be after the (Olympic) break."

Even before the injury, Spezza's hopes of making Canada's Olympic squad for the February 12-28 Games were fading.

The Senators' number one center has struggled through the early part of the season, counting just five goals and 14 assists in 30 games.
