Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson is returning for another season.

It will be the 17th campaign for the 39-year-old Swede, who has spent his entire career in Ottawa.

Alfredsson had hinted at the end of last season he might retire after registering 27 goals and 32 assists in 75 games.

He has been Ottawa's captain since 1999 and is the franchise leader in games played (1,131), goals (416), assists (666) and points (1,082).

The six-time all-star won the Calder Trophy in 1996. He was Ottawa's second sixth-round selection in the 1994 draft.
