Seedorf out, Inzaghi in at Milan

Milan, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - AC Milan announced on Monday that the club has fired manager Clarence Seedorf and replaced him with another former player, Filippo Inzaghi.

Seedorf signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Milan in January, but he is now out after failing to guide the Rossoneri into a place in European competition next season following an eighth-place finish in Serie A.

The Dutchman ended his playing career at Botafogo in Brazil so that he could take charge of Milan. And despite winning 11 of his 19 games in league play, the club finished one point out of a Europa League spot and was bounced from the Champions League by Atletico Madrid in the second round.

Inzaghi and Seedorf were teammates at Milan for 10 seasons and Inzaghi will now take over after serving as youth team coach for the club.

"Inzaghi is hungry to win things, which is congruent with everything that we want at Milan -- a side which takes to the field to win and entertains the fans by producing a spectacle," said Milan president Silvio Berlusconi.
