Season over for Souray after another surgery

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Sheldon Souray will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing a second surgery to repair a damaged ligament in his right wrist.

The news came down on Friday, hours before the Pacific Division leaders take the ice against the Central Division-leading Blackhawks in Chicago.

"This is a difficult situation for Sheldon and a tough loss for the team," said Anaheim GM Bob Murray. "Sheldon has been in pain for quite some time. This surgery was his best course of action in order to alleviate pain and discomfort, and regain full mobility in his wrist. Sheldon's long-term health is the most important issue right now, and we support his difficult decision to have this surgery."

Souray was in line to miss anywhere from 4-to-6 months after tearing the ligament during offseason workouts and the subsequent surgery and rehab. However, arthritis appeared in the joint near the ligament and this latest procedure was done at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic earlier in the day to relieve the symptoms.

Souray joined the Ducks in July 2012, signing a three-year deal as a free agent. He posted seven goals with 10 assists for 17 points in 44 games during the shortened 2013 season, leading the team with a plus-19 rating.

The 37-year-old veteran has 109 goals and 300 points in 758 games with New Jersey, Montreal, Edmonton, Dallas and Anaheim since breaking into the league with the Devils in 1997.
