Seahawks' Bevell on Super Bowl call: 'I've learned that I am strong'

Darrell Bevell made the call on perhaps the most controversial play in Super Bowl history. Chalk it up to an educational tool for the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator.

"I've learned that I am strong. I've learned that I can take a lot of weight on my shoulders," Bevell told reporters Wednesday while recalling the ill-fated decision to call a pass at the 1-yard line in the final minute of last season's Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots. "I've learned I have a lot of support; there are a lot of people that were there for me."

There also were a lot of people calling for Bevell's head for eschewing a handoff to running back Marshawn Lynch instead of the Russell Wilson pass that was intercepted by New England's Malcolm Butler to deny Seattle's bid for back-to-back Super Bowl championships.

Perhaps it's a good thing that Bevell played quarterback at the University of Wisconsin, because he conceded he has played a lot of Monday morning quarterback over that fateful decision.

"There's really not times that don't go by where you still think about it," Bevell said. "I know how I feel about it. I know the feelings it conjures up in side of me when I think about it. But it's one play. I have to look at it that way and put it behind me.

"That doesn't mean it didn't happen. That doesn't mean that I still don't have a reaction to it," Bevell added. "But it's one play, and I've got to continue to move on and continue to move forward. If we continue to live in the past we never get to where we want to be."
