SE Louisiana fires football coach Lucas

Southeastern Louisiana head coach Mike Lucas has been released from his duties, university officials announced on Monday.

In six seasons Lucas led the Lions to a 19-40 record, including a 3-8 mark this year. His best season came in 2009, posting a 6-5 record and was selected as Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Lucas previously served as the Lions defensive coordinator, before taking the head coaching job in 2006.

According to officials, the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
