Schalke pulls further away from fifth-place Leverkusen

Schalke inched closer to clinching 1, at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion on Sunday.

The Royal Blues now sit fourth in the Bundesliga and enjoy a 10-point lead over fifth-place Bayer Leverkusen after its loss to Monchengladbach on Saturday.

It was a relatively close call for the Schalke as Kaiserslautern took the lead three minutes into the match. Rodnei nodded home the opening goal off of a free-kick delivery from Christian Tiffert for his first goal of the season.

But Schalke was able to overturn the deficit by halftime as Lewis Holtby and Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored in the six minutes apart just before the break.

The visitors then sealed the win in the second half with Raul sending a brilliant left-footed shot into the upper corner in the 51st minute and Jefferson Farfan adding insult to injury nine minutes from time following a two-on-one break.

The loss leaves Kaiserslautern a strong bet to finish the season in the relegation zone. The Red Devils remain bottom of the Bundesliga on 20 points.

Hannover 4, Cologne 1

Hannover, Germany - Hannover grabbed three second-half goals to comfortably get past Cologne in a 3-1 win at the AWD-Arena on Sunday.

Lars Stindl and Kevin Pezzoni traded goals in the opening period before a Jan Schlaudraff penalty and a Mame Biram Diouf brace clinched all three points for the home side.

Hannover climbs above Stuttgart and into seventh place in the Bundesliga with 38 points, while Cologne loses for the first time in three league contests as it remains three points above the relegation zone.
