Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler had surgery Wednesday night on a broken left arm, and will be sidelined for an undisclosed period of time.

Draxler sustained the injury in a 2-2 draw on Wednesday against Montpellier in Champions League, and the German club confirmed his injury Thursday.

He became the youngest German to score in the Champions League at 19 years and 13 days old when he had the first goal of the match. He also earned a penalty kick, but the foul resulted in the injury that forced him to be taken off.

Schalke has four points from two matches, two points behind Arsenal, ahead of their home-and-away series in the Champions League in London on Oct. 24 and in Gelsenkirchen on Nov. 6.

Draxler made his debut for Germany earlier this year, and has two caps.
