Russian police search for former NHL goalie, gold-medal winner Shtalenkov

Russian police were searching Tuesday for former NHL goalie and 1992 gold medal-winner Mikhail Shtalenkov, who went missing over the weekend.

Shtalenkov, 46, was last heard from Sunday after landing in Moscow on a flight from the Russian city of Magnitogorsk, where he serves as the coach of Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) team Metallurg, law enforcement officials told Russia's RIA Novosti.

"An announcement was received from his spouse that Mikhail has gone missing," the official told the state-owned news agency on condition of anonymity. "All necessary search and recovery measures are being taken.

Shtalenkov was a member of the Unified Team that won hockey gold in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.

He played stints in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes and Florida Panthers from 1993 to 2000, serving primarily as a backup netminder.
