The Kansas City Royals have designated pitcher Roman Colon for assignment and selected the contract of pitcher Francisley Bueno from Triple-A Omaha.

Colon pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief in Friday's game against St. Louis, allowing four runs on eight hits during an 11-4 loss. He had appeared in three games for the Royals this season and surrendered six runs in eight innings.

The 32-year-old Dominican right-hander was in his second tour of duty with the Royals, having spent parts of the 2009 and 2010 seasons in Kansas City. He owns a career mark of 8-10 with a 5.19 earned run average in 124 games, including eight starts, in portions of six big league seasons with Kansas City, Detroit and Atlanta.

Bueno signed as a minor league free agent last November after spending two seasons in Mexico. The 31-year-old right-hander was 1-3 with five saves and a 2.85 ERA in 25 relief appearances with Omaha.
