Royals, Cain avoid arbitration

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals signed outfielder Lorenzo Cain to a one-year contract Tuesday, avoiding arbitration.

Cain, 28, batted .301 with five homers and 53 RBI in 133 games last season for the AL champion Royals. He scored 55 runs, had a .339 on-base percentage and stole 28 bases.

The five-year veteran has a career average of .279 with 17 homers and 144 RBI.
