Ronaldo says he's 'appalled' at Brazil's chaotic World Cup preparations

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

Former Brazil striker Ronaldo says he is "appalled" at the chaotic preparations for the country's World Cup, arguing that little that was promised to the people was delivered.

A member of the local organizing committee, Ronaldo's comments Friday in the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo are his harshest criticism so far of Brazil's planning for the World Cup, which opens in just under two weeks.

Ronaldo is a local hero in Brazil after winning two World Cup titles, and says the country is "failing to take advantage" of the opportunity to showcase itself on the world stage.

Despite the biting criticism, Ronaldo says the country will host a "great World Cup," relying on the South American nation's love of football and its quest for a record sixth title.
