Rome, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Roma failed to reclaim first place in Serie A on Monday after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by bottom-half Cagliari.

After Juventus secured a 2-0 win against Livorno on Sunday to go top of the league Roma had the opportunity to move back in front with a win.

However, the hosts were unable to breach the Cagliari defense on Monday with Gervinho going closest for Roma with a header that struck the crossbar.

Roma is now one point back of Juventus despite starting the season on a 13- game unbeaten streak.

Miralem Pjanic went close with a long-range effort for Roma on the half-hour mark while the best chance fell to Gervinho a few minutes later as he headed a cross from Dodo off the bar.

Cagliari goalkeeper Vlada Avramov did well to deny Kevin Strootman from 12 yards, and he was called upon in the closing seconds to keep out a header from Leandro Castan at point-blank range.
