Americans Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser opened their Olympic title defense with a straight-set win Sunday.
Rogers and Dalhausser beat Kentaro Asahi and Katsuhiro Shiratori 21-15, 21-16 in 40 minutes on the sand at Horse Guards Parade.
The top-ranked Brazilian team of Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti survived a three-set scare before knocking off Austria's Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst 19-21, 21-17, 16-14.
Americans Jennifer Kessy and April Ross also opened with a victory, beating Argentina's Maria Virginia Zonta and Ana Gallay 21-11, 21-18.
