The Colorado Rockies activated first baseman Todd Helton from the 15-day disabled list Friday.
Helton, 38, had been sidelined since July 9 with inflammation in his right hip.
In 63 games coming into Friday's action, Helton hit .235 with seven home runs and 34 runs batted in. The veteran first baseman of 15-plus major league seasons -- all with the Rockies -- is a career .320 hitter with 354 home runs and 1,342 RBI.
To fill a spot on the roster, the Rockies optioned rookie pitcher Edwar Cabrera to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Cabrera lost both of his starts at the big-league level and did not pitch past the fourth inning in either outing.
